Yesterday, April 17, the Ocracoke Island Decoy Carver’s Guild hosted the 3rd Annual Ocracoke Island Waterfowl Festival at the Berkley Barn. This was the first event of the 2021 season for the Berkley. It was the perfect community event to kick off an exciting season of weddings, events, and festivals. We look forward to a promising year ahead.
The Ocracoke Island Decoy Carver’s Guild hosted an excellent show at the Berkley Barn. Area vendors from surrounding counties in addition to Hyde County displayed high quality waterfowl wood carvings and collections from world famous carvers. Vendors were set up inside the barn and spread out on the Berkley grounds. From ducks to shore birds to swans and geese, you could see it all. The featured carver of the event was Ocracoke’s Nathan Spencer. There is a lovely write-up about Mr. Spencer and his story of becoming a carver in the event brochure. In addition to the carvings on display, annual t-shirts were sold by the Guild and baked goods were available for purchase. There was an excellent turn-out for the single day event accompanied by beautiful weather. We were excited to be part of this well-organized community event and look forward to its fourth annual production next year.
Our community events are an important part of Ocracoke. These special events and festivals bring in visitors from the mainland and other areas of the Outer Banks.
